Course Overview

This two-day, instructor-led course provides managers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge to effectively handle employee conduct and disciplinary actions. Discipline is never an easy responsibility, but applying it consistently and fairly is essential for maintaining a structured and productive work environment. This course focuses on proactive strategies to minimize disciplinary issues before they arise, the importance of a well-defined discipline policy, and the appropriate levels of disciplinary action to enforce. Participants will explore the principles of progressive discipline, learn how to communicate expectations clearly, and understand how to document and implement corrective actions effectively. Key topics include performance management, verbal and written warnings, documentation best practices, and termination procedures. At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what discipline in the work place looks like
  • Determine what discipline is and how to implement it
  • Organize your discipline policy and make sure all employees are aware
  • Remain professional when performing disciplinary actions in the workplace
  • Learn how to evaluate disciplinary actions and implement an appropriate level of discipline
  • Be consistent and fair
  • Hold all employees to the same expectations
  • Learn how to provide feedback
  • Determine how to implement verbal and written warnings
  • Handle situations in an orderly and timely manner
  • Be able to deescalate issues before they arise
